If Q801 is replaced by a regulator with a standard (not fully plastic) housing, it must be mounted on the aluminium heatsink isolated. With the 79xx series, the middle pin (and thus the metal tab) is connected to the regulator's input, and unisolated mounting will cause a short circuit.
